10-Year-old Ify Ufele goes from being bullied to a plus size fashion designerby Tasharna Brown-Taylor Wednesday, March 2nd, 2016 .
Meet 10-Year-old Egypt ‘Ify’ Ufele who started her own plus size clothing line for kids after being bullied about her size.
The young designer used to get bullied by other kids over her weight, but instead of letting the negativity get her down she turned it into something positive and put all her work into fashion. She created her own clothing line called ‘Chubiiline’ for all body sizes which she describes as, “bringing Africa to America, one design at a time.” And get this, her new line has made it to New York Fashion Week making her the first child designer to dress curvy models!
Speaking to the Today Show, she said;
“People applaud me and tell me I’m good at fashion. Sometimes I give my models ideas, and then we agree on it, and I end up making it. Being a designer and being at fashion shows are really exciting because you get a lot of attention, and a lot of people ask you what inspires you”
She even revealed how bad the bullies treated her saying, “I was bullied and they called me all kinds of names. One time I got stabbed by a pencil”
Ify started sewing clothes for her dolls by hand, then she moved onto her grandma’s sewing machine, sketching and designing clothes for kids and adults.
